New England
New England 6 States Songs:
Symbol: NENG
NewEnglandcoin is a clone of Bitcoin using scrypt as a proof-of-work algorithm with enhanced features to protect against 51% attack and decentralize on mining to allow diversified mining rigs across CPUs, GPUs, ASICs and Android phones.
Mining Algorithm: Scrypt with RandomSpike. RandomSpike is 3rd generation of Dynamic Difficulty (DynDiff) algorithm on top of scrypt.
1 minute block targets base difficulty reset: every 1440 blocks subsidy halves in 2.1m blocks (~ 2 to 4 years) 84,000,000,000 total maximum NENG 20000 NENG per block Pre-mine: 1% - reserved for dev fund ICO: None RPCPort: 6376 Port: 6377
NewEnglandcoin has dogecoin like supply at 84 billion maximum NENG. This huge supply insures that NENG is suitable for retail transactions and daily use. The inflation schedule of NengEnglandcoin is actually identical to that of Litecoin. Bitcoin and Litecoin are already proven to be great long term store of value. The Litecoin-like NENG inflation schedule will make NewEnglandcoin ideal for long term investment appreciation as the supply is limited and capped at a fixed number
Bitcoin Fork - Suitable for Home Hobbyists
NewEnglandcoin core wallet continues to maintain version tag of "Satoshi v0.8.7.5" because NewEnglandcoin is very much an exact clone of bitcoin plus some mining feature changes with DynDiff algorithm. NewEnglandcoin is very suitable as lite version of bitcoin for educational purpose on desktop mining, full node running and bitcoin programming using bitcoin-json APIs.
The NewEnglandcoin (NENG) mining algorithm original upgrade ideas were mainly designed for decentralization of mining rigs on scrypt, which is same algo as litecoin/dogecoin. The way it is going now is that NENG is very suitable for bitcoin/litecoin/dogecoin hobbyists who can not , will not spend huge money to run noisy ASIC/GPU mining equipments, but still want to mine NENG at home with quiet simple CPU/GPU or with a cheap ASIC like FutureBit Moonlander 2 USB or Apollo pod on solo mining setup to obtain very decent profitable results. NENG allows bitcoin litecoin hobbyists to experience full node running, solo mining, CPU/GPU/ASIC for a fun experience at home at cheap cost without breaking bank on equipment or electricity.
MIT Free Course - 23 lectures about Bitcoin, Blockchain and Finance (Fall,2018)
CPU Minable Coin Because of dynamic difficulty algorithm on top of scrypt, NewEnglandcoin is CPU Minable. Users can easily set up full node for mining at Home PC or Mac using our dedicated cheetah software.
Research on the first forked 50 blocks on v1.2.0 core confirmed that ASIC/GPU miners mined 66% of 50 blocks, CPU miners mined the remaining 34%.
NENG v1.4.0 release enabled CPU mining inside android phones.

Decentralization and Community Driven NewEnglandcoin is a decentralized coin just like bitcoin. There is no boss on NewEnglandcoin. Nobody nor the dev owns NENG.
We know a coin is worth nothing if there is no backing from community. Therefore, we as dev do not intend to make decision on this coin solely by ourselves. It is our expectation that NewEnglandcoin community will make majority of decisions on direction of this coin from now on. We as dev merely view our-self as coin creater and technical support of this coin while providing NENG a permanent home at ShorelineCrypto Exchange.

ASIC/GPU Mining Pools Warning to Big ASIC Miners Due to DynDiff Algo on top of Scrypt, solo mining is recommended for ASIC/GPU miners. Further more, even for mining pools, small mining pool will generate better performance than big NENG mining pool because of new algo v1.2.x post hard fork.
The set up configuration of NENG for scrypt pool mining is same as a typical normal scrypt coin. In other word, DynDiff on Scrypt algo is backward compatible with Scrypt algo. Because ASIC/GPU miners rely on CPU miners for smooth blockchain movement, checkout bottom of "Latest News" section for A WARNING to All ASIC miners before you decide to dump big ASIC hash rate into NENG mining.
(1) Original DynDiff Warning: (2) New Warning on RandomSpike Spike difficulty (244k) introduced in RandomSpike served as roadblocks to instant mining and provide security against 51% attack risk. However, this spike difficulty like a roadblock that makes big ASIC mining less profitable. In case of spike block to be mined, the spike difficulty immediately serve as base difficulty, which will block GPU/ASIC miners effectively and leave CPU cheetah solo miners dominating mining almost 100% until next base difficulty reset.

Mining and Dogecoin - Some FAQs

Hey shibes,
I see a lot of posts about mining lately and questions about the core wallet and how to mine with it, so here are some facts!
Feel free to add information to that thread or correct me if I did any mistake.

You downloaded the core wallet

Great! After a decade it probably synced and now you are wondering how to get coins? Bad news: You don't get coins by running your wallet, even running it as a full node. Check what a full node is here.
Maybe you thought so, because you saw a very old screenshot of a wallet, like this (Version 1.2). This version had a "Dig" tab where you can enter your mining configuration. The current version doesn't have this anymore, probably because it doesn't make sense anymore.

You downloaded a GPU/CPU miner

Nice! You did it, even your antivirus system probably went postal and you started covering all your webcams... But here is the bad news again: Since people are using ASIC miners, you just can't compete with your CPU hardware anymore. Even with your more advanced GPU you will have a hard time. The hashrate is too high for a desktop PC to compete with them. The blocks should be mined every 1 minute (or so) and that's causing the difficulty to go up - and we are out... So definitly check what is your hashrate while you are mining, you would need about 1.5 MH/s to make 1 Doge in 24 hours!

Mining Doge

Let us start with a quote:
"Dogecoin Core 1.8 introduces AuxPoW from block 371,337. AuxPoW is a technology which enables miners to submit work done while mining other coins, as work on the Dogecoin block chain."
- langerhans
What does this mean? You could waste your hashrate only on the Dogecoin chain, probably find never a block, but when, you only receive about 10.000 Dogecoins, currently worth about $25. Or you could apply your hashrate to LTC and Doge (and probably even more) at the same time. Your change of solving the block (finding the nonce) is your hashrate divided by the hashrat in sum - and this is about the same for Doge and LTC. This means you will always want to submit your work to all chains available!

Mining solo versus pool

So let's face it - mining solo won't get you anywhere, so let's mine on a pool! If you have a really bad Hashrate, please consider that: Often you need about $1 or $2 worth of crypto to receive a payout (without fees). This means, you have to get there. With 100 MH/s on prohashing, it takes about 6 days, running 24/7 to get to that threshold. Now you can do the math... 1 MH/s = 1000 KH/s, if you are below 1 MH/s, you probably won't have fun.

Buying an ASIC

You found an old BTC USB-miner with 24 GH/s (1 GH/s = 1000 MH/s) for $80 bucks - next stop lambo!? Sorry, bad news again, this hashrate is for SHA-256! If you want to mine LTC/Doge you will need a miner using scrypt with quite lower numbers on the hashrate per second, so don't fall for that. Often when you have a big miner (= also loud), you get more Hashrate per $ spent on the miner, but most will still run on a operational loss, because the electricity is too expensive and the miners will be outdated soon again. Leading me to my next point...

Making profit

You won't make money running your miner. Just do the math: What if you would have bougth a miner 1 year ago? Substract costs for electricity and then compare to: What if you just have bought coins. In most cases you would have a greater profit by just buying coins, maybe even with a "stable" coin like Doges.

Cloud Mining

Okay, this was a lot of text and you are still on the hook? Maybe you are desperated enough to invest in some cloud mining contract... But this isn't a good idea either, because most of such contracts are scams based on a ponzi scheme. You often can spot them easy, because they guarantee way to high profits, or they fake payouts that never happened, etc.
Just a thought: If someone in a subway says to you: Give me $1 and lets meet in one year, right here and I give you $54,211,841, you wouldn't trust him and if some mining contract says they will give you 5% a day it is basically the same.
Also rember the merged mining part. Nobody would offer you to mine Doges, they would offer you to buy a hashrate for scrypt that will apply on multiple chains.

Alternative coins

Maybe try to mine a coin where you don't have ASICs yet, like Monero and exchange them to Doge. If somebody already tried this - feel free to add your thoughts!

Folding at Home (Doge)

Some people say folding at home (FAH - still the best. I just installed the tool and it says I would make 69.852 points a day, running on medium power what equates to 8 Doges. It is easy, it was fun, but it isn't much.
Thanks for reading

Merged Mining AMA/FAQ

This is Charlie Lee, creator of Litecoin.
I've got asked many times to do an AMA for merged mining. This is a bit time consuming for me, but I'm interested in merged mining academically. And maybe this will be helpful to people.
I will come back later to answer all questions. And then maybe replace this post with a FAQ. Please keep questions to Litecoin, Dogecoin, and Merged Mining.
Everyone, please don't answer any questions unless you are sure you know the answer. I want this to clear up any confusion and not to create more confusion.
P.S. Here's a good technical explanation of merged mining: And namecoin's info:
P.P.S. Also open to questions about other ways (other than merged-mining) to this problem.

Why will Dogecoin go up? One Simple Reason.

People missed out on Bitcoin.
Many many people are here because for one reason or another, they missed the boat on Bitcoin.
The point is, the whole internet feels like it missed out on something special. This is their chance to get in while the getting is good. This is their redemption. THIS IS DOGECOIN!
Human nature cannot be changed or contained, and the amount of communal regret surrounding cryptocurrency will drive this thing to the moon.

Ok, I'm convinced. This coin is direct LTC competitor and will probably overtake it. Soon.

I never liked LTC in the first place, nor VertCoin when I first heard of it few days ago. However I did invest into LTC, my first crypto investment was buying LTC. But not to keep it and stack it under the pillow, but to exchange it asap into coins I believe in. It was a way to buy some cryptos without sending money via SEPA to btc-e or some other exchange. While trying to buy some LTC to get started I've learned what that community is about, they all await this "Jump". They all want to go to the moon but do nothing to make it happen. They stuff their precious coins under pillows and hope that one day it will make +1000% on btc-e and they will be rich. But no, that does not happen just like that. Doge showed them what it is about, community and innovation. Vertcoiners, do not become LTC people. LTC people started with good goals, just like you. But turned into bunch of cheap and ugly speculators and this is the start of decline of their precious coin. I just don't see how can LTC keep the market share next to Doge, Vert and several others like DGC and maybe WDC. Use the ideas from Doge and adapt, and most importantly do not see this as some virtual shit to make quick money. This is revolution.

A BTC owner looking for something more upbeat

Hello everyone. I'm here because I could use some help and I heard this was the place to come:
As I'm sure many of you know, over at /bitcoin there is a discussion happening about dogecoin and this subreddit. The discussion is mostly about how much more activity this subreddit is getting lately in comparison to /bitcoin and why that might be. I've owned some BTC for a few months now. I got into BTC because it felt promising and honestly, because people were making money on it. But over the last few months I have felt my excitement become strangled by the community around bitcoin. Not everyone who owns bitcoin is negative or hateful but on /bitcoin I have watched over and over again as new users come in and ask questions and get told off. It doesnt matter if the question wouldnt take more than a second to answer, the new guy is told to go to the sidebar or to "fuck off".
Users who are looking to get involved and mine are discouraged and told that they are being unrealistic and told to go "fuck off".
Users who have concerns or who point out flaws with BTC are told to "fuck off".
Frankly, I'm tired of it. I'm tired of the community at /bitcoin and after reading so many of the positive things about /dogecoin I've decided that I want to come be a part of this community. I want to experience the light, fun side of cryptocurrency. I want to learn along with you all and be able to teach others without feeling like I'm going to be ostracized by the rest of the crowd.
I'm not looking to trade all of my BTC in for Doge but I am looking at getting involved in mining and tipping and encouraging others! I'm looking to be able to spend my Doge at a few stores here and there (online or offline) and I'm really looking forward to being able to ask questions and have a good time!
So, /dogecoin, this is where I need help: I've currently got a few of the sidebar links open and am about to start reading up on dogecoin and how I can start mining and contributing to the community but honestly I don't know where to begin. I've never mined any cryptocoin before (I was told many times that it was useless to try to mine anything on my own) and so I have no idea how that works, practically. I don't know which wallet to use on my PC or if any of the wallets on the Google Play store are good and trustworthy.
So, I know this is a long post and I know that a lot of the information I'm looking for can be found somewhere else but, I want to hear tips and advice and stories from people who are already a part of dogecoin. Any help that you guys can provide would be great and much appreciated! Thank you!
EDIT -- Thank you so much to everyone that has taken the time to respond to this post. You guys have shown me just how great the community here can be. I feel more welcome here after almost 20 hours than I ever have, after a number of months, over at /bitcoin. Thank you to every one of you that helped put some coin in my doge wallet! I've learned about mining, I've learned about the tipbot, and I've learned about the general awesomeness of /dogecoin! You guys are great and I'm starting to feel like a Shibe already!

Why dogecoin is essential to the success of bitcoin!

I believe what started out as a joke may ultimately play a large role in the overall success of other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Litecoin, here is why.
When lots of people hear about cryptocurrencies it just sounds too complicated to them or like something they will never need. Worse than that is when they hear some of the bad press around Bitcoin such as the silk road, the potential for criminals, or its murky past/present/future problems with government regulation. While I am a big supporter of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin I think these problems are a major hindrance for regular people to get into them and start using it like a real currency.
Here is where Dogecoin comes in! Dogecoin doesn’t have an image problem. It’s a light hearted coin with a friendly face and community. The doge meme already has huge popularity online and I think this can be used to our advantage. We can popularize Dogecoin with people who would never look into Bitcoin or Litecoin. If they can use this to get a taste and see what it’s all about then hopefully move onto the real deal with another currency. I think the fact that Dogecoin has 100 billion total coins also helps a lot with this. When playing with "monopoly money" who doesn’t want to have as much as possible? We could potentially introduce millions of new people to the world of cryptocurrencies.
I think we as the early adopters of Dogecoin have a job to take Dogecoin from just a joke and turn it into a movement to attract new people to the crypto world. To achieve this I think we should try our best to keep it all light hearted and not get too serious. We should also do all we can to make Dogecoin easy to get into for even the least computer literate person.
So I’d like to discuss what we can do to get this done?
Here is some things I think we can start with.
-Keep faucets stocked with doge and make more! No one likes to have a wallet with no doge.
-Make mining easier! While it’s already fairly easy if you got a good guide I’ve already seen dozens of beginners turned off from Dogecoin simply because they couldn’t fix a problem with their miner. Even if difficulty is already making dogecoin hard to mine for anyone without the best equipment even small amounts will be good for a noob.
-Build a doge-economy around small/fun things! We can buy our lambos through Bitcoin I think we need to focus on getting Dogecoin used for little things. Ideally I think we would want them to be able to buy some little digital thing (Think tf2 hat) for just what they get from the faucets so they can see how great it is using cryptos to instantly buy things.
-Educate them on the dangers! We need to make sure they don’t learn of the dangers of cryptocurrencies from getting scammed or deleting their wallet or something. We need to educate them on how to trade properly and safely. We also need to provide the facilities to make trading things safe and easy. Already dogemarket has a bunch of people that got scammed and that’s the quickest way to put a noob off cryptocurrencies.
Post more of your own and lets discuss how we can take Dogecoin mainstream!

Confused Shibe Here... Need a little help with a question in mind. Dogecoin reward for best answer.

SO... I've been trying to wrap my head around what a crypto currency is, and I get most of it. What I have yet to understand, is how the coin itself is made, and how it is (I guess you could say) 'dispersed' for people to mine. It's like hiding easter eggs, one guy throws them out, and people can either find them through work or buy them off of other people; but what about the guy who hid them, why can't he just take all the eggs since he knows where he hid them?
Any help with this question is greatly appreciated, and I'll even give some dogecoin for the best answer.

This is one of the few mining pools that will actually pay out in Dogecoin. Most of the pools will covert the coins generated into Bitcoin or Litecoin. With about 16,000 miners active on the site, Prohashing merge mines for coins and then pays directly into your bank account. Dogecoin uses Scrypt algorithm, which makes it different from Bitcoin and the ASIC miners used for mining Litecoin can be used for mining Dogecoin 2020. Nowadays, mostly Dogecoin mining can be considered as a by-product of Litecoin mining. So, you can merge mine both LTC and DOGE, without compromising on the hash rate. Solo or mining in pools? Here comes the first pitfall: there’s actually no such thing as pure Dogecoin mining because you have to mine it together with Litecoin. Turns out, DOGE coins are simply the by-product of Litecoin mining. You have a choice: to join a Dogecoin mining pool or hunt for the coins on your own.
